Gertrude was born July 15, 1921 to Elwood and Evelyn Putney in Lynn, Massachusetts. She was a devoted member of First Assembly of God on Cumberland Ave in Portland, Maine since 1928. Gertrude was a member of the Dancing Grandmothers throughout the 1970’s where she performed in various venues throughout Jacksonville, Florida. Gertrude was also a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Memorial Hospital for over 20 years. She was given many awards throughout her time as a volunteer at the hospital.
Gertrude will be lovingly remembered by her children, Wayne (Brenda) Cole and David Cole; her grandchildren, Merrill Cole, Helen Gossett, David Cole Jr., Devon (Angie) Cole, Sarah (Jason) Mitchem, Aaron (Sarah) Cole, Minott Cole II, Leigh Ann (Joseph) Torre, Elizabeth (Tony) Domingo and Jessica Moynihan; her great grandchildren, Veronique Cole, Dakota Cole, Liam Gossett, Cassidy Cole-Tucker, Kennedy Cole, Preston Rennick, McKenna Cole, Annabelle Cole, Peyton Cole, Reagan Cole, Haley Torre, Ethan Torre, Logan Domingo, Gavin Moynihan and Casey Pickett; and her great-great grandchild, Rosalee Cole. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elwood and Evelyn Putney; her husband, Minott Cole; children, Vernon Cole and Beth Ann Cole; and her siblings, Elbert Putney, Vernon Putney, Phyllis Williams and Ruth Beecher.
The family will receive guests at a viewing on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., at Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd Jacksonville, FL 32207. A funeral service honoring Gertrude will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at Glad Tidings of Jacksonville, 6131 Terry Road Jacksonville, FL 32216. Interment will follow at Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gertrude may be sent to First Assembly of God on Cumberland Ave in Portland, Maine or Glad Tidings of Jacksonville.
