Gloria McPhillips, born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on November 23,2024. She was a deeply devoted Catholic, whose life was defined by her faith, her love for her family, and her tireless service to her community.
A proud graduate of St. Mary's High School in Pittsburgh, Gloria worked as a secretary at Sun Telegraph before dedicating herself to raising her four children—Karen, Bill, Tom, and Maureen—alongside her beloved husband, Bill, whom she married on June 15, 1948. After Bill’s passing, Gloria relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, to be near her two daughters.
Gloria was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where she participated in the Young at Heart and Mary Widows ministries. Her compassion extended beyond her church, as she supported Divine Mercy House, an organization that helps young mothers and their babies. Gloria also volunteered at the Mandarin Senior Center, supporting local seniors, and the Mandarin Food Bank, providing food for families in need.
She was a woman whose devotion to her faith, family, and community made a lasting impact. Gloria will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Gloria is survived by her four children, Karen, Bill, Tom, and Maureen; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.
