Harold proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years, a commitment that shaped his strong work ethic and lifelong sense of service. Following his time in the Navy, he began a career with Southern Bell before answering another call to serve his community as a police officer with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, where he worked with a K-9 partner.
An entrepreneur at heart, Harold later owned a laundromat on San Jose Boulevard and went on to found Harold’s Tractor Works, working alongside his son, Hal Braasch, with the help and support of his grandchildren along the way. Family was always at the center of everything he did.
Harold was married to the love of his life, Shirley Braasch, for 56 wonderful years. Together they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and community. He especially loved dancing with Shirley, hunting, and hosting legendary Christmas parties each year in conjunction with the St. Johns River Boat Parade—events that brought friends, family, and neighbors together in celebration. Harold was also a proud member of the Shriners.
He is survived by his daughter Debbie Howard (Billy), son Hal Braasch, and daughter Sheri McGowan (Kenny); five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of hard work, generosity, and love for family.
Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley Braasch; his son Ronnie Braasch; and his brother Ronald W. Braasch.
Harold will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud veteran, dedicated public servant, and a man who truly knew how to bring people together. His presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 10, 2026, at 2pm, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, located at 11801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida, 32223.
