Helen (Moochie, Grandma' Helen, Nana) Powell Beam was born on September 25, 1936, in Gastonia, NC, and left this world on August 29, 2023. The family moved to Jacksonville, FL, when she was two years old, so she always considered herself a Florida native. She attended Cosmetology School in the 1960’s and opened her own beauty shop and managed this very successful business for many years. She loved to work and especially enjoyed making others happy through the art of hair styling, for which she was highly talented.
Some of her favorite things were going to the beach, going on cruises, and gardening. She looked forward to every Sunday when family and friends would gather at her house for food and fun. She never met a stranger and had such a generous heart that all were welcome in her home.
She loved to celebrate every holiday and decorated her Christmas tree with hundreds of lights which could never outshine her beautiful smile and loving spirit. She lived life to the fullest and truly showed us all how to Live, Laugh and Love.
Helen was predeceased by her mother Anne Ryals, husband Robert Beam, brothers Nick Powell, George Powell and CJ Powell. She is survived by daughters Vickie Douglas, Connie Bergh (Ronnie Hodge), Carol Beam Wise (Don), Charlene Beam Register (Chuck), 5 Grandsons, 5 Great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
A brief committal service will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery on Friday, November 24th at 12:30pm. Afterward, family and friends will gather at her home for a celebration of her life.
