Henry Curry Noxtine (aka Nachtsheim) stepped into the presence of the Lord on February 12, 2026. He was born at his childhood home in an orange grove owned by his parents on August 6, 1928, in Curlew, Florida. He was the son of Mary Alice Hill and Thomas Nachtsheim. Henry graduated from Tarpon Springs High School and entered the Navy at age 20 where he served on the aircraft carrier Valley Forge for two years before being honorably discharged. In August 1950, he married his high school sweetheart Drusy. Their newly married life was quickly interrupted in Sept 1950 when he was ordered back into the Navy and immediately sent to Japan to serve during the Korean War.
He received his second honorable discharge from the USN in June 1952 and returned home to his loving wife and now one year old son Henry Jr. They went on to have three more children and were married for 57 years prior to Drusy’s passing in 2007. Henry worked for the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles in Bradenton, Tampa and Tallahassee for a total of 35 years. In the summer of 2022, after living in Tallahassee for almost 50 years, Henry moved to Westminster Woods of Julington Creek to be closer to his daughter. At WWJC he found a very sweet and loving community.
For many years Henry was a member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee where he served as a deacon. After moving to the Jacksonville area, he joined Mandarin Presbyterian where he attended the Seekers Sunday School Class. He had a sincere but simple faith in his Lord Jesus, expressed by serving others. He was happiest when he had the opportunity to help others with practical needs. He loved being outside doing yard work and growing various plants. A highlight in Henry’s life was being chosen in 2017 to be part of an Honor Flight from Tallahassee to Washington DC to visit the war memorials. He was honored last year to be in the Jacksonville Veterans Day Parade as the Oldest Male Veteran. In recent years if you asked him how he was feeling he would say “I’m old and I’m simple.” Henry had a unique sense of humor and will be deeply missed by many.
Henry was preceded in death by his Drusy, his daughter Melda, his son Thomas, siblings Katherine Peterson, Gertrude Nachtsheim and Bert Nachtsheim. He is survived by his son Henry Curry Nachtsheim Jr. (Annie), daughter Karla Nachtsheim, granddaughters Tara McGinnis (Ryan) and Hallie Sharp (Jake) and great grandchildren Elle and Owen, his brother Melvin Nachtsheim and many extended family members.
A graveside service will be held at Sylvan Abbey Cemetery in Clearwater, Florida on Thursday February 19, 2026 at 10:00am and a Celebration of Life service will be held at Westminster Woods of Julington Creek on Saturday February 21, 2026 at 10:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Honor Flight Tallahassee or Tomorrow Clubs International.
