

Hugh Ralph Carney Jr., age 82, passed away on October 12, 2013 at Baptist Medical Center South. He was born in Covington, Kentucky on July 25, 1931 to Addie McFall Carney and Hugh Ralph Carney Sr. His loving sister Maxine Carney Oliver precedes him in death. He moved to Jacksonville, Florida at age 5 where he graduated from Andrew Jackson High School class of 1950 and was captain of the track team and President of Beta Hi-Y. He earned Outstanding Student in the Aviation Electrician School upon graduation from the Jacksonville Naval Air Reserve Training Unit and served active duty in the U.S. Naval Reserve during the Korean War from 1953-1955 . He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. After returning to Jacksonville, he married the love of his life Marilyn Lane and became Vice President of Mock Furniture Company. He was a faithful Christian and throughout his life and attended Berea Baptist church, Mayfair Baptist church, Parkwood Baptist church, and in later years Christian Family Chapel. Ralph became an active participant at Memorial Hospital Heart Center. He loved track throughout his life in which he won state awards, and was a longtime member of the Jacksonville Track Club. Ralph also spent many summers at his lake house at Little Swan Lake in Melrose, Florida where he enjoyed water skiing and making lasting memories with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Lane Carney, children Sherri Carney Dowdy (Glenn Dowdy) and Kelly Dean Carney. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Joshua Dowdy (Thaoly Tran Dowdy) and Savannah Dowdy Casey (Tim Casey) who lovingly called him “Papa Ralph.” Family visitation will start at 10:30 a.m. immediately followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday October 15, 2013 at Greenlawn Funeral Home at 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL. 32207.
