

Iris Tekel Young, passed away on January 10, 2017. Iris was born on September 22, 1953 to Paul G. and Thelma T. Tekel. Iris was employed as Executive Director of Jewish Family & Community Services (JFCS) for over thirty-five years, retiring in 2011. She was a founder of Family Support Services of North Florida, Inc. (FSSNF) and a founder of Mt. Carmel Kosher Nutrition Program. Iris obtained multiple graduate degrees. She received numerous awards for her dedication to the community including the 2003 Humanitarian Award - National Conference for Community & Justice (NCCJ) and served on many public and private boards. Iris was a great leader, dedicated mentor, loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Charles H. Young; son, Joseph T. Young (Laura); granddaughter, Lucy E. Young; step-mother, Judith Eppy Tekel; sister, Nina C. Shine (Doug); sister-in-law, Esta Rubinstein (Alan); caregivers, Deborah Wilcox, Kay Ferguson, Yolanda Lipsie and many nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends. A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00(NOON) on Friday, January 13th in Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205 with Rabbi Howard Tillman officiating.
