

BARTLETT - Dr. James Vance Bartlett peacefully departed this life on June 24, 2018, after a long illness, aged 74. Jim was the adopted son of Floyd and Ruby (nee Heilman) Bartlett, and brother to Vicky Gibney. Jim joined the US Navy at age 17, and served in the Vietnam War. He started out enlisted, as a medical corpsman, went to college, and became an officer, retiring as a Lieutenant-Commander after 20 years of service. Along the way, he earned an MS and PhD in environmental science and a master's degree in finance. He also ran several businesses and worked as a county health officer in Wisconsin and a healthcare adminstrator on behalf of the Navy in Jacksonville.
Jim was predeceased by his wife Carol (nee Rinz), who also served in the US Navy, and whom he met when they were both working at the same base hospital in California. Jim and Carol were married in 1964 and together for 49 years. They felt fortunate to be able to travel the world, including living in Japan and visiting Europe. Jim enjoyed building furniture, remodeling houses, and antiquing in his spare time.
Jim leaves behind four children: Rebekah, James (Sharon), Daniel (Lisa), and Samuel; and nine grandchildren: Dante, Isaac, Grant, Alex, Laura, Rachel, Jacob, Olivia, and Thomas. "Doc," as he was known to family and friends, will be missed.
A Visitation will be held in the chapel of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. 32211 on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. followed by the Memorial Service at 1:30 p.m.. Burial will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 9 am at the Jacksonville National Cemetery (Lane 1), 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Fl. 32218 with full military honors.
