James Anthony Cortez, left this life the same way he entered - laughing, loving, and mischief making. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and teacher, he passed on his fun loving mischief making ways to future generations. The witty, rocket making, school desk fire setting, water balloon fight having, never knew a stranger, chocolate chip cookie loving icon was one for the ages. His loving wife of 58 years both encouraged and supported his antics - and even had 2 children with him to continue the tradition. Joining his parents in eternal life, he leaves behind a loving wife, 2 children and their spouses, 2 grandchildren, and 2 sisters.
A celebration of his life will be held September 6, 2025, at 11 am at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge (4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32207).
In lieu of flowers, we request a donation in his honor to the South Carolina Botanical Garden where many happy memories were made for the Cortez family (https://iamatiger.clemson.edu/giving). Instructions: “Search for a fund”, Type: SCBG friends. After any amount is entered you will be able to make the gift in memory of James Cortez.
