Its been a year since you its has been  a year since you went home to be with God,and it stills feels like yesterday at times then there are days it feels like a life time.We love you and miss you Jim,but we know that you are in very good hand with our Father in heaven,and we know there will be a day we will see you again.God i know is watching over Darla,Eric and Cassie.I know God is comforting them in this hard times of the lonly days that they feel with out you jim being with them.But so glad that they know they will see you again soon.

I knew James from our younger days back in West Virginia at church and church camp. What a young man he was then always caring about others  and loving life to the fullest. R.I.P James .Prayers for all the families James lived and worked with.

a crew chief.Your were a good man admired and respected by all of us who knew you.

I had the privilege and honor of being Jim’s partner in homicide for 6 years from 1998 until 2004.  Looking back it seems like we spent more time with each other than our wives during those years and at one point Jim’s wife Darla even threatened to take me to court for visitation rights.  Working with Jim provided me with some of the best memories I have of my career here at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, but more than a partner Jim became my best friend.  In our jobs occasionally you run across that rare person that you just click with, someone you know you can trust and that will always be there for you.  Well Jim was that person for me.
When I started thinking about what I wanted to say about Jim it was really hard to find a word that would sum Jim up.  Jim was honorable man, he was loyal friend, he was tenacious investigator, he was a fierce competitor, he was an obsessive jokester, he was a caring family man, he was a devout Christian, but none of these words seem to do him justice.  I finally decided on the word outstanding, because that is exactly how Jim lived his life in every way.
Jim was an outstanding son, brother, Uncle, father and husband.  Jim loved his family with every fiber of his being and would do anything for them.  I did not have the privilege of knowing Jim as children but based on some of the stories he told me his parents, brother and sisters had their hands full.  Darla, Cassie, and Eric you were the very breath Jim breathed and the foundation that gave him strength.  You meant more to him then my words could ever express and I would give anything if I could give him back to you.
Jim was an outstanding Marine serving this country with pride and distinction for 14 years.  During his tenure Jim rose to the rank of sergeant and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal.  But what Jim was the proudest of was earning the right to serve as Crew Chief for the Blue Angel’s #2 Marine Corp jet.  Jim told me many stories of his exploits in the Marines, many of which I have sworn keep secret, but one that really stands out and he actually showed me pictures was they wrapped an entire jet with wrapping paper one Christmas.  
Jim was an outstanding police officer and served this city and community for almost 18 years.  This chapter of Jim’s life actually began when he befriended homicide detective Herb Scott and decided to do a ride along.  That night Jim responded to a homicide scene and actually got to sit in on the interview and confession of the suspect.  Darla said Jim came home that night and it was decided he was going to become a homicide detective.  Jim went through the academy and became a correctional officer, then went on to become a police officer in patrol, a child abuse detective, and then as he promised a homicide detective.  Jim career speaks for itself, he has received 28 commendations, been selected as officer of the month on 3 separate occasions, and was officer of the year for 2008.  This is the most prestigious recognition that this agency can give to one of its own.  I cannot begin to name all the people that knew Jim knew and touched both in our agency and other organizations.  
Jim was an outstanding friend, his death was sudden, and even now seems surreal.  I must admit that I always imagined us in retirement going fishing, golfing, on cruises together with our wives, and many other adventures.  It never crossed my mind that there was any other course of action for us.  Now as reality sets in and I feel the bitter absence of my friend I cannot help but long for his return.  Jim was my best friend and a piece of me will always be absent.  Until we meet again buddy know that I love you and will do all that I can to care for your love ones in your place.  This task is easy knowing that you would have done this and more for me.  In closing Jim you truly was outstanding in every way and I am a better man for knowing you.

16 days ago today God called Jim home. Though we don't understand why this had to be. We know God has a master plan! Jim will be missed by many. I am so thankful of the incredible friendship between Jim and my husband Lonnie. They would have done anything for each other. True friends are hard to come by and Jim was a true friend. Jim touched our lives in so many ways. Words cannot express what the heart feels. I will miss him. My prayers are with Darla, Cassie and Eric.

Sometimes you want to say so much and it just doesn't sound right...RIP, Semper Fi.

At times like this, there isn't much a person can say to relieve the pain.  Just know that all our thoughts and prayers are with you every day. Remember all of us here in West Virginia.  We will always be part of your family even if we aren't related to you.  Keep in touch.

Jim has left an empty spot in many lives but the memories will live on through eternity. My fondest memory was working with Jim at Christian Life Church with the young boys of Christian Life Crusaders. His witness and example has changed many lives. May Gods Peace and Strength fill your hearts.

Jim and I were roomates in 1987 in El Centro, CA, during Blue Angel winter training.  We reconnected in JAX in 2006 as fellow Harley riders.  Jim's career as a Marine and a JSO officer speaks for itself.  But, Jim's greatest legacy is his family and his love for each of them.  God bless Jim and the Davis family.

Jim, It was an Honor to know you and work with you.  You were a great Detective and I learned a lot from you and Lonnie.  I learned a lot from you when I was assigned to the SAO Gun Crime Unit and still use those techniques you taught me today.  You always went that extra mile to help seal a case for prosecution.

I enjoyed seeing you daily at 711 Liberty and I am sad I didn't get to speak with you longer, when we spoke at your desk last week.  

I will remember the jokes and pranks that were played. You always knew what to say and put smiles on the faces of others at work.  

I will miss you Jim.   Rest In Peace and I have your family in my prayers..

When I first met you I thought, 'Oh, man. I have no tattoos, I don't ride a Harley or have a doo rag, I don't drink beer. Now what.' Then I got to know you and my sister and found out you play piano, hymns too, you have a garden, and a swing and dogs and you're kind and loving, not to mention considerate. It will be an honor to meet up with you on the other side and embrace a great man. Thanks for making my sister happy.

Jim my brother-in-law even though we've only known one another a short time I feel I've known you all my life. I have so enjoyed our talks, the laughs and fun we have shared, & playing corn-hole at Marsha's. Thank you for your service to our great nation, and your dedication to  protect and serve the community of Jacksonville. Thank you for taking such great care of my sister and your children through the years. You are more like a brother to me. It has been an honor and a privilege to have you in our lives. Jim Davis was a wonderful ,wonderful man!! From the very first day of meeting him, Darla, Eric & Cassie he was like family to the Rekitts. We then met his wonderful brother & sister in law when they moved down here along with Bryan & Nicci their children. We all became family as they joined CLC and went to church with us all. Jim was always caring and loved his family deeply. He had the sweetest most sincere soft spirit about him. His son Eric meant the world to him, Cassie his daughter was his angel, and Darla well you could tell she was his soulmate, lover & bestfriend. One day Jim we will all see you again in heaven so that we can all rejoice with you. Until than with lots of love....
