Ed proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps before returning home to establish a career. In 1954, Ed moved to Jacksonville, where he became a longtime resident and built a full and meaningful life. Ed first owned and operated a barber shop and later began purchasing property, steadily building a respected portfolio of residential and commercial real estate. His hard work, vision, and perseverance left a lasting impact on his family and community.
Ed’s faith in God was his guiding light in all that he did. It shaped the way he worked, cared for his family, and approached life’s challenges.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mildred, and by his eight brothers and sisters. He is survived by his children, Woody Holland (Melody) and Wanda Frith (Marc); five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom were his pride and joy. Ed enjoyed many years in the company of his friend, Ray Rice.
Those who knew Ed will remember his strong work ethic, his vision for what could be created or improved, and his unwavering commitment to productivity. Work was not only his career but also his greatest hobby—he always had to be doing something, and he remained industrious throughout his entire life.
Ed leaves behind a legacy of faith, diligence, and devotion to family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Our family is grateful for the loving care Elvia Edwards provided for the last ten years. He was blessed in recent months with many caregivers who cared so deeply for him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ed’s memory to The Gideons International. https://gideons.org/donate?scd=d_2500_785_GEN_Y10230&utm_medium=digital&utm_campaign=fundraising&utm_id=2025-Evergreen-Digital-GF-Campaign-Google-Ad&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22594098910&gbraid=0AAAAACVFUB0GEPLxxNBZtP2nMAg7Em12O&gclid=Cj0KCQjwrc7GBhCfARIsAHGcW5VGXjN7QeLaFcE473eiFwQ6ql_3RTuKGNSKpN3ATteNLsh9Lvsl3roaAkO_EALw_wcB
A visitation for Ed will be held Saturday, September 27th from 9:30am to 10:30am, with a service at 10:30am. We will then go in procession to Arlington Park Cemetery for his final resting place.
