

James Horace McLaughlin was born December 5, 1948 in Colon, Panama. He left this earth on January 23, 2025. James leaves behind his loving wife Veronica McLaughlin who he married April 4, 1997, to present. His wife spent the last years of James life providing care and comfort to him. From this marriage he has two daughters, Jasmine McLaughlin, and Jacquelin McLaughlin. James also leaves behind an ex-wife Adella McLaughlin with whom he had two daughters Jovanni Mooring and Jamie McLaughlin and two stepchildren, Dennis Wilson and Sayonara McLaughlin who is deceased. James has 3 grandchildren Andre, Alexis, and Sayonara. James has always been a great “pop pop" to his grandchildren. James has 3 siblings, Doris Elizabeth McLaughlin, Simona Bramwell and his brother Clifford Ralph Wallace who is deceased. James has an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
James has had a very successful and rewarding career. He served in the Marine Corps and later went on to the Army from April 1977-June 1995 when he retired. During this lengthy career in the Army his duties called for him to serve at many places which included Texas, West Virginia, Germany, Honduras, Korea, Istanbul, and Turkey. He has always been very proud of the many duties he performed while in the military.
You could catch him on any given day sporting his veteran gear, making it be known he was proud to have served his country and proud to call himself a Veteran. James extended his career at the Department of defense as an immigration inspector from November 2000-May 2013 when he finally retired. James was also a member of the American Legion and Fraternal Police Association.
James also volunteered at elementary schools during veterans day as a speaker, he enjoyed to talk about his military life. James was a very good provider to his family, he always put everyone's needs before his own. He might have a grumpy face but if you got to know him he will be your best friend for life. He prioritizes his family, he is also very proud of his four daughters and stepchildren and of course his three grandchildren always looking forward to their phone calls.
A visitation for James will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223. A funeral service will occur Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 7190 US-17, Fleming Island, FL 32003. A committal service will occur Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
