JAMES ALTON RAY of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL passed away at his home on December 18, 2023. He was born on March 6, 1939, in Ft. Pierce, FL. He spent most of his childhood in Berkley County, SC. James served his country in the US Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his Father, James Frank Ray and Mother, Irene Ray Hathaway, Daughter, Heather Greenslate and Brother, John Curtis Ray.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Wanda Wingfield Ray, Daughter, Kathy Ray Ashemore, Brother, Charles Larry Ray, Sisters, Patricia Ray Bounds and Judy Ray Inman. Stepchildren: Kathy Chase Braddock (Husband Mark) Carlos “Buzz” Chase (wife Gloria) Michael R. Chase (wife Mary “Dat”) and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE MEMORIAL will be held at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Alzheimer Organization.
