
REEVES James L. “Jimmy” Reeves went home to be with the Lord on June 15, 2008 after a long bout with cancer. He was born on December 17, 1928 in Chester (Dodge County), GA to Ramon and Vida Reeves. He graduated as valedictorian from Chester High School and attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega, GA from 1945-1947. He came to Jacksonville, FL in 1947, and met his wife, Jane Johnson of Vidalia, GA in 1952. They were married on November 5, 1956 in Sylvania, GA. He was employed at Graybar Electric Supply Co. from 1947- 1958 taking a leave of absence to serve in the U. S. Army 1950-1952. He served in the Korean War and earned the rank of staff sergeant. In 1958, he went to work at Smith & Royals Electric Supply Co., serving as vice president in 1966 and president in 1987. Jim enjoyed an active life in his community. He was a member of Holiday Hill Baptist Church, Master of Arlington Lodge #309 F. & A. M. in 1978, a member of York Rite Knight Templar and Morocco Shrine Temple. He served on the North Council Chamber of Commerce and was president in 1976; served on the Board of Governors of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce Downtown; a member of the Northside Rotary Club 1987-2001, was a Paul Harris Fellow and vice president for several years. He is survived by his wife, Jane Reeves, of 51 years; two nephews: Dr. Mark J. Stewart, Augusta, GA, and Stephen Stewart, Stone Mountain, GA. Three sisters-in-law: Phyllis Johnson and Charlotte Jones, Atlantic Beach, FL; Carolyn Moats (James) Sylvania, GA,; two brothers-in-law, William Johnson, Jacksonville, FL and Evan Johnson, Vidalia, GA. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lucille Stewart. The family will receive friends on Wednesday June 18, 2008 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. followed by the service at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. with Dr. Albert Byrd, Holiday Hill Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Sharpe Cemetery, Alston GA. with Masonic rites and Military honors at graveside. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 at the Ronald D. Hall Funeral Home, 310 N. Street W., Vidalia, GA. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Holiday Hill Baptist Church, 730 Mandalay Road, Jacksonville, FL 32216.
