James Earl Speight

Commander James Earl Speight, USN, Retired, 76, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2014. He was born on December 18, 1938 to Charles Fred Speight, Sr. and Mildred Jordan Speight Bradley, both of which preceded him in death along with his beloved sister Geraldine “Gerry” Speight Knight. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years Betty Joan Weathers Speight; son James Arthur “Art” Speight (Carrie); daughter Sherrie Lynn Speight; brother, Charles Fred Speight, Jr. (Flo); grandson Hunter Jay Speight; granddaughter Sky Anne Speight; goddaughter Catherine “Kitty” Petters Heustis and numerous nieces, nephews, loving family and dear friends. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Northeast Florida Community Hospice. Friends and family are invited for visitation on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Chapel. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, December 31st at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Chapel with interment at Oaklawn Cemetery. Reception to follow.
