It is with heavy hearts that we remember Jeffery Guy Johnson, who was born on January 31, 1960, at Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford, Delaware.
Jeffery's educational journey took place within the Milford School District, where he laid the foundation for a life of dedication and service. On April 23, 1979, he bravely enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. His commitment to his country earned him numerous accolades, including the Coast Guard Unit Commendation Ribbon with one Gold Star, the Command Letter of Commendation Ribbon, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Coast Guard Marksman Rifle Ribbon, the Coast Guard Recruiting Service Ribbon, and the Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon. After 20 years of proud service, he retired and continued serving his community for another 20 years with the United States Postal Service.
Jeffery's love for his family shone brightly through his passion for coaching his sons in football. He cherished the simple joys of life, often spending hours on the phone with family and sharing cherished memories of growing up in Houston, Delaware. Among his fondest memories were the moments spent fishing and mowing the lawn beside his beloved grandfather, Lee Johnson. Jeffery also had a great love for jazz music, attending numerous concerts and festivals, with the Jacksonville Jazz Festival holding a special place in his heart as he made it a yearly tradition.
His father, Leroy "Bucky" Benson, preceded him in death, whose memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Jeffery leaves behind a loving legacy, including his children, Jeffery Johnson Jr. (Texas) and Jarrett Johnson (Florida); his mother, Betty Benson (Delaware); his sisters, Sharon Burris, Wanda Johnson, and Cheryl Spady (all of Delaware); his aunts, Patsy Salter (Delaware) and Helena Perkins (Pennsylvania); his uncle, Leslie Benson (Pennsylvania); and a large, loving family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
As we celebrate Jeffery's life, we invite all those who knew him to reflect on the joy, kindness, and love he brought to our lives.
