Jerome “Jerry” Sheitelman, 89, of Basking Ridge, NJ, and Jacksonville, FL, passed away on April 7, 2026. Jerry was a teacher and an accomplished pianist, who shared his love of teaching and music with so many. He loved teaching piano, playing chamber music, and the opera. He taught piano for more than forty years, sharing the joy music brought him with his students, other musicians, and anyone who shared his passion. Jerry’s curiosity about everything was legendary, leading him to travel extensively, to meet people who became lifelong friends, and to find humor in the mundane.
Jerry’s home was the site for many gatherings, for family, friends, and piano recitals. He loved to bring people together. Jerry saw the positive in everyone he met. He was the first to offer help to others, never asking for anything in return.
Jerry is survived by his sisters, Harriet Sheitelman and Elaine Furman, his beloved nieces Deborah Miller and Naomi (Allen) Kipp, and nephew David (Dana) Furman, six great nieces and nephews, cousins and the many good friends he had.
May his music live on through everyone whose lives he touched.
A Graveside Service will be held at New Center Memorial Park Cemetery, 200 E 43rd Street, 43rd and Liberty Street, Jacksonville, FL 32208, US, on Friday, April 10, 2026, beginning at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to RiverGarden, Congregation of Ahavath Chesed, Community Hospice of Jacksonville, or the music program of your choice.
