

Dr. Gerald Hilding Stenklyft, Jr. MD went to be with his Lord the morning of December 19, 2009. Jerry was born in Anderson, IN to Mr. and Mrs. Gerald H Stenklyft Sr. on November 14, 1959. Dr. Stenklyft is survived by his wife, Shirrie, son Gerald H Stenklyft III, daughter, Erin Stenklyft, step-daughter Kai, mother Shirley Stenklyft of Tyler, TX, brother Jay Stenklyft (Annalisa) of Tyler, TX, sister Joan Waiter of Killen, TX, sister Jean Roberts (Stan) of Auburn, IN and numerous nephews and nieces. Dr. Stenklyft was preceded in death by his father Gerald H. Stenklyft Sr., Uncle Steve Stenklyft, Aunt Marcia Phillips and her husband, Bob and Aunt Pat Dakins .Dr. Stenklyft graduated in 1984 from Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, LA and completed his Obstetrics residency in 1988. He was board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Dr. Stenklyft practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology in Jacksonville, FL for 21 years at Baptist Medical Center. He joined North Florida Obstetrical and Gynecological Associates, P.A. in 1999. Dr. Stenklyft served in several leadership positions for the Department of OB/GYN at Baptist including President of NF/OBGYN July 2005-2007, VP and Chairman of Finance Committee 2003-2005, Chairman of the OB/GYN department at Baptist Hospital 2000-2001 and Chairman of the Adult Medical Board at Baptist Hospital 2000.Dr. Stenklyft’s love of his life was his son Gerald III and daughter Erin. Packer games, fishing and hunting with Gerald and horse- back riding and barrel riding with Erin were his passions. They enjoyed YMCA Indian Guides and Princess Programs together for many years.Dr. Stenklyft was loved and cherished by his wife, Shirrie. He was her knight in shining armor and best friend and made her life as rich and wonderful as anyone’s should be.In Dr. Stenklyft’s professional career he was considered more than just a physician, he was a friend to the nursing staff at Baptist Medical Center downtown as well as his colleagues and staff at North Florida OBGYN. His presence and kind heart will be greatly missed.Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Perry, Anthony Stenklyft, David Stenklyft, Daniel Waiter, Alex Pierce, Joe Walsh, Rick Carter and Stephen Dackiewicz.Visitation with family will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2009 from 5-7 PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue with a rosary being said at 6:30 PM. A funeral mass will be held 12:30PM Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at St Joseph’s Historic Catholic Church, 4124 Loretta Road, Jacksonville, FL.
