Jessie Evelyn Atkinson

Jessie Evelyn Higginbotham Glover, age 97, passed away peacefully in her home on August 8, 2023. She was born on September 24, 1925 in Dinsmore, Florida to Otis E. and Jessie E. (Derenthal) Higginbotham. She was a longtime Dairy owner on Garden Street in Dinsmore. She also loved working with her herd of Beef Cattle. She worked as an Accountant for a number of years for several Certified Public Accounting firms in Jacksonville. She was a lifelong member of Dinsmore United Methodist Church.

Evelyn is survived by four daughters, Pearl Glover Boles (Grady), Jennie Atkinson, Marilyn Atkinson, Marlene Atkinson Garberson, and one son, William (W.C.) Glover. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, many beloved nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Delores Higginbotham, and other extended family.

Evelyn was predeceased by two daughters, Elsie Glover Crum (Tom), and Barbara Glover. She is also predeceased by her five brothers, Earl, Elwood “Red”, Neal “Cotton”, Calvin, and Marvin Higginbotham. She was predeceased by her husbands, Alva Lee Glover, and Warren J. Atkinson.

There will be a Graveside Service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 12, 2023 at the West View Cemetery, 5345 Pickettville Road (east of Old Kings Road), with Pastor Trudy Loots (Evelyn’s granddaughter) officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.
