Joan Lovan LeClere, 84, passed away on September 15th, 2018, surrounded by her children and their love. She was born in Hopewell, Virginia and moved to Jacksonville at the age of 3. Joan graduated from Landon High School (class of '51) after which she attended Stetson University, Jacksonville University, FJC (where she earned an AA degree), and the University of North Florida. Joan was a painter, author of several novels, and a pioneer in digital social networking. On her Kaypro, she wrote the software for and created a BBS (bulletin board system) named Elsinore. It was a way to bring people together in the early days of the internet, before chatrooms. In her later years, she taught adults to read and volunteered for the Red Cross. Above all else, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Joan raised her five children on her own, instilling in each of them her compassion, quick wit, and sense of humor. She taught multiple generations the importance of family and togetherness through her unconditional love and support.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles Felix Lovan and Doris Hillyer Baldwin and grandson Matthew Charles LeClere. She is survived by her sister Linda Lovan Harkness (Edward); nephews Devin Harkness (Lyndsey), Ned (Megan); great-nieces Clio Harkness, Hilde Harkness; children Nancy LeClere Nunnery, Patricia LeClere Garber (Thomas), Stephen Charles LeClere (Dale Ann), Mark Hillyer LeClere, William Thomas LeClere (Sandra); grandchildren Victoria Joan Nunnery, Michael Burk Nunnery, Alison Garber Neil (Robert), Phillip Scott Garber, Christopher Thomas LeClere, Eric Stewart LeClere (Taira), Shannon LeClere Deckard (Josh), Amanda Michelle LeClere, Rebecca Faye LeClere, Megan LeClere Taber; great-grandchildren Connor James Neil, Evan Thomas Neil, Charlotte Delaney LeClere, Tailor Elexa LeClere, Taitum Eluria LeClere, Egan Trae LeClere, Euan Tyce LeClere, Chase Matthew Deckard, Theya Rose LeClere-DeVore, Chloe Elizabeth Taber, Elijah Michael Taber, Riley Thomas Taber, Flynn Harrison Taber; step-sister Carol Baldwin Clarke and step-niece Christie Baldwin Clarke.
