Joan Alice Orr, age 81, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 9, 2023, after a long illness. She was born March 10, 1942 in Manhattan, New York. Joan moved to Jacksonville at a young child, and graduated from Dupont High School in 1960. She also was the winner of the Mandarin Volunteer Fire Department Pageant.
Joan held various jobs in banking and service industries, serving as Judge Westberry's clerk for several years in the 70's. She was probably best known as the friendly face who greeted her loyal customers each morning at the San Jose Blvd. and St. Augustine Rd. Burger Kings in a career spanning 26 years.
Joan is preceded in death by her father, John A. Long; mother Josephine A. Richter Long; and son John Thomas Orr. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Claude T. (Tommy) Orr; son R. Stewart Geoghagan, Jr. (Anita) of Woodstock, GA; granddaughter Rachel L. Geoghagan; great-grandson Wyatt Cox; granddaughter Emily M. Geoghagan; daughter Teresa A. Powers (Richard) of Callahan, FL; grandson David Powers; great-grandson William Powers; grandson Timothy Geoghagan (Lauren); great-granddaughter Ireland; grandson Michael Powers (Cassidy); great-grandchildren Noel, Cade and Nora; daughter-in-law Charlene E. Orr of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter Tahni Wiire (Tyler); great-granddaughter Aurora; grandson Sage Matthews; brothers Warren G. Long, Brian B. Long and sister Frances M. McCormick; along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Joan was a founding member of Bartram Baptist Church, where she enjoyed spending time in the nursery, going to Sunday School, and participating in the bus ministry, where she was especially devoted to helping children know Christ. Playing bingo at the Mandarin Senior Center brought her enjoyment and fellowship. She was always the consummate coordinator at all family gatherings, keeping everything labeled and in its place.
She will be missed by family and friends, but we are comforted knowing she is healed. Joan fought the good fight and she has gone home to be with the Lord and those who have gone before her.
