Joanne Marie Lee

16 août , 19375 novembre , 2019

Joanne Marie Lee, 82, formerly of Cape May, New Jersey, passed away on November 5, 2019. Born on July 16, 1937, she was raised in Philadelphia and graduated from Little Flower High School. She moved to Cape May County in 1968 with her husband, Joseph Lee, and her children to fulfill their dream of living “down the shore”.

During the first few years in Cape May County, she and Joe purchased and successfully operated the “Lucky Spot,” a vacation apartments and rooming house, on 25th Street in North Wildwood. In 1974 they bought Cabin City Motel in Cape May, where she would work for the next 40 years. Joanne was a member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Parish in Cold Spring. When health issues surfaced, Joanne reluctantly retired to Jacksonville, Florida in February 2014, but her heart remained in Cape May. She will always be remembered for her commitment to the motel, her incredible work ethic, her strength, humor, and her wit.

Joanne was predeceased by her husband Joseph M. Lee, her sister Kathy McDermott, and many friends and family members whom she dearly missed. She is survived by her five children, Michael Byrne, Diane Byrne Elbe, Timothy Lee, Daniel Lee and Kathi Engler (Jim). She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Joanne’s nephew, John McDermott, was like her sixth child. Her caregiver, Sheila Newbie, became an integral part of her life for the last four years, and for that we are forever grateful. Her friends, (the Golden Girls, as they were known in Florida) and the caring staff at Brookdale Senior Living, helped Joanne enjoy her well-deserved retirement years.

A celebration of Joanne’s life will be held in Cape May at a later date. Condolences will be received at www.dignitymemorial.com

I knew Joanne back in Germantown PA in the mid 50’s. We met again in 1975 when my husband and I were looking to start a business in Wildwood. Joanne went out of her way to help us find property and helped us start our business. I reconnected with a Joanne this year and it was like we were never apart. I was going to visit her when I returned to Florida. Unfortunately that is now impossible. To Joanne’s children Michael, Diane, Danny, Timmy and Kathi I’m truly sorry for your loss. May the happy memories you have a your mother help you through this sad time.

About our Mom, our Mom was someone who lit up a room wherever she was, she was someone everyone loved to be with and talk to. Mom was there for anyone who needed consulting, advice, or help in any way. Mom was someone who cared for her family and friends without ever putting herself 1st, she was someone you could always count on in any time of need and would be there to overcome a problem however overwhelming it may had seen to be. Mom lived a life like no other woman I've ever known, overcoming so many hardships and heartbreaks in her life with victory and triumph unparrallel to any other. Knowing that her way of life was the mark of someone who could always be proud of who she was brings such a comfort to me, loved by all of us and knowing the love we all will always have for her will surely have her in peace for eternity. I love you with my whole heart and soul, Mom, having the greatest Mother a son could ever have will always stay with me and all of us
