John Lewis Cascone Sr., born September 19, 1927, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2023. John was born in Pensacola, Florida and moved to Jacksonville when he was a small child with his parents, Captain John Cascone and Antoinette Garrelli Cascone. John stayed in Jacksonville through high school where he graduated from Andrew Jackson in 1945.
After graduating high school John served in the Army from 1946-1947, during World War II. After his military service he became a lineman for Southern Bell and ended his career as a manager for Western Electric at age 57. John was a devout Catholic and a parishioner for most of his life. He attended Holy Spirit Catholic Church from the time they opened, almost 40 years ago, until his passing.
John was married to his soulmate, Marilyn, for nearly 61 years until she passed in 2010. They had three sons, Lewis, Steve, and Craig.
Most of John’s life was in Jacksonville but he did live in South Florida from 1966 until 1972, when they came back to Jacksonville and built their forever home.
John and Marilyn loved to travel in their RV until they traded it in for a camper that stayed in beautiful Maggie Valley in North Carolina. This is where they spent their summer months for many years. John loved his campground life. They loved the get togethers up there including daily Happy Hour, large cookouts and John thoroughly enjoyed his weekly poker game.
After the passing of Marilyn, John found great companionship with Sarah Behrenshausen that lasted until his passing.
There were many things John loved and enjoyed to do including refereeing high school football games, golfing, fishing, and his Florida Gators. John hardly ever missed a game and had season tickets into his 90s. But John’s biggest joy came from his family. He loved family get togethers and loved hosting Christmas at his house. He always made it known how important family was.
John is survived by his three sons Lewis (Mi Jung), Steve (Marguerite), Craig (Debi), his four grandchildren Katrina, Angela (Gregg), Michelle, and JL (Danielle), and his ten great grandchildren Christopher, Monique, Jonathon, Alex, Yvette, Sasha, Ryder, Ty, Avery and Savannah.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:30p for viewing with Mass following at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11665 Fort Caroline Road, on Saturday March 18th, 2023. A graveside service will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 N Main St., in Jacksonville, Florida.
Immediately following the graveside service, the family invites all attendees to join them in a celebration of life at Glen Kernan Golf and Country Club, 4590 Glen Kernan Pkwy E, Jacksonville, FL 32224.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
