

John Alfred Dinsmore died on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, in Jacksonville, Florida. The son of John Alford Dinsmore and Lees Wallace Ballantine Dinsmore, he was born on September 2, 1920, in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Augusta, Georgia where he attended Richmond Academy. Later, he attended Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida. He was married to Dorothy Harrell Dinsmore for 64 years before her death in 2005. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps at Bougainville, Guam, and Iwo Jima during World War II. He was retired from a 30 year career in engineering at Western Electric and Southern Bell Telephone Company. Over the years, John was active in community affairs, among them the Pioneers, the St. Johns County Round Table, and the Orangedale Community Association. John is survived by his three daughters, Lees Baldwin and husband John of Mount Pleasant, SC, Diane Dinsmore Henley, and Jacki Nash and husband Joseph of Lakeland, FL; five grandchildren, John Rhett Baldwin, Jr., Kenneth Lawrence Henley, Jr., Dorothy Henley Guthrie, Timothy Joseph Nash, Brian Nash, and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2011. Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. preceding the service. Interment will follow the funeral service at Orangedale Cemetery.
