

John D. Kirkendoll, 75, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025. A decorated veteran and devoted family man, John lived a life defined by service, courage, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved.
Born on June 22, 1950, John answered his country's call immediately after high school, enlisting in the United States Army to serve in Vietnam. What began as a tour of duty became a distinguished military career spanning decades. John served with honor in some of the Army's most elite units, including the Special Forces, where he earned his Green Beret, and the storied 173rd Airborne Brigade. His exceptional service earned him numerous medals and commendations, reflecting not only his bravery in combat but his dedication to excellence in all he did.
After retiring from the Army, John continued to embody the values that defined his military service—integrity, compassion, and a quiet strength that drew people to him. Whether sharing stories with fellow veterans, riding alongside his motorcycle buddies, or lending a hand to neighbors and co-workers, John had a gift for friendship that touched countless lives.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane Kathryn Colby Kirkendoll, who passed in 2022. He is survived by his stepsons Dan Fagen and Jeff Fagen, whom he embraced as his own. He was a cherished grandfather to Austin, Sara Jane, Nate, and Hope, and great-grandfather to Ollie and Jane Anne. His family knew him as a man of few words but profound love—someone whose presence brought comfort and whose character set an example they will carry forward.
John D. Kirkendoll lived a life of purpose and left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, his brothers and sisters in arms, and the many friends who were fortunate enough to call him their own.
A true American hero. A faithful friend. A loving husband and grandfather. Gone but never forgotten.
A committal service will be held at Mandarin Cemetery, located at Mandarin Road and Jacksonville, FL 32223, on January 30, 2026, starting at 11:00 am.
A reception will follow the service at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Chapel, located at 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223, beginning at 11:45 am.
