

John B. Sornberger was born on September 18, 1921 in Deposit, New York. He joined the Army at age 17 and he became an Air Traffic Controller for the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was stationed in Valley Wales Royal Air Force Base where he met and married his wife, Dorothy, in 1945. He relocated to Piqua, Ohio with his wife and son, Scott, in the late 40's, where he worked as an Overhead Line Construction Foreman. In the early 70's, John and Dorothy relocated to Blanchester, Ohio, where John was employed by the City Utilities Department. He was the Utilities Manager when he retired in 1986 and relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where his son and his family live. John spent many years volunteering at the Teacher Supply Depot, here is Jacksonville. He was a master gardner and while in Ohio, he was very active with the Masons.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings. His wife, Dorothy, passed away in 1994. John is survived by his son, Scott (Lynn); grandsons, Charles, and Chandler (Janet); and his great-grandchildren, Jackson and Kaylee.
Memorial services will be held on 2:00pm on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Hardage Giddens, Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Community Hospice Foundation, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Bldg. 100, Jacksonville, FL 32207
