It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and friend, Jon Hugh Harris. Jon was born in Charlotte, North Carolina as the second of three sons to George and Trudy Harris.
Jon lived in several cities, but mostly in Jacksonville, FL and Chicago, IL. Growing up in Jacksonville, he swam competitively and was a top ranked swimmer in the 200 Individual Medley even qualifying for the Olympics as an alternate in his prime. While living in Chicago, Jon was a producer in the events business where he led projects globally. In recent years, he moved back to Jacksonville to assist editing his mother’s third book. Jon acted as her primary caregiver during her last months, he was a God Send.
Jon had many lifelong friendships from school, swimming, and his work life. He will be sorely missed by his peers where he was comfortable being himself and was described as a great coworker that was creative, talented and handy, with a witty sense of humor.
Jon is survived by his father, George Harris, his brothers, George and Ken, and their extended families. Jon adored the family which included Erik, sisters-in-law Barbara and Jennifer and nieces/nephews Macie, Will, Kenneth, John, Michael, and Hannah each of whom held a special place in his heart. Jon truly cherished each of them by spending time getting to know them individually. This made them feel treasured and loved dearly by Uncle Jon, whom they deeply admired. They have many sweet memories chatting about Marvel comics and movies.
There are few words to express the deep pain and sorrow of losing Jon, however, it brings us comfort knowing that he can now rest in peace with his much adored mother. A Funeral Mass Service will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jon’s name to a charity of your choosing in the field of Mental Health Management. – God Bless
