August 1, 1982 - December 15, 2013
Jacksonville, Florida
Jose Antonio Moreno, loving husband, dedicated son and faithful brother, passed away in his sleep at his home in Jacksonville, Florida on the 15th of December, 2013.
The second of three brothers, Jose enjoyed playing soccer from the time he could walk, and took pride in leading his team as a co-captain at the Bolles School, from which he graduated in 2000.
Jose went on to attend Emory University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in finance. More importantly, while studying in Atlanta, Jose met his future wife, Mariam. Mariam’s, selfless contributions to Jose throughout his life were the driving force behind his many triumphs.
Jose continued his education at Temple University School of Law, where he developed his passion for immigration law and earned his J.D. in 2007. Shortly after passing the Florida bar, Jose was involved in a motor-vehicle accident and suffered 3rd degree burns to 70% of his body and was hospitalized for an extended period of time.
With endless love and support of his family, who never left his side, Jose endured more than 15 surgeries and over three years of physical rehabilitation. Despite the challenges he faced, Jose persevered and fulfilled his dream of practicing immigration law. He established his own practice, Moreno Law Group, in 2012.
Jose’s gifts of understanding and compassion for his fellow man significantly impacted those who had the privilege of interacting with him.
Jose is survived by his wife, Mariam Moreno; parents, Leyda and Raul Moreno; brothers, Raul and Tomas Moreno; grandmother, Dyris Carmona; and many loving family members. They are all deeply saddened by Jose’s passing, but believe that he now resides in heaven with the lord Jesus, his grandfathers, Raul and Tomas, his grandmother, Luz and his uncle, Luis. The rest of his loved ones will join him when the time is right.
In lieu of flowers, his family would suggest memorial donations in Jose’s name to Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, c/o Development Director – 126 W. Adams Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202.
