
Joseph Charles Speiser Sr. passed away October 4, 2013 after a very brief battle with cancer. Joseph was a Jacksonville native. He was a 27 year veteran of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and served in the US Army in Germany and Korea. He was an amateur radio operator (KI4OIU) and briefly served as president of the North Florida Amateur Radio Operator. He was a member of the JJ Dickison Camp, Sons of the Confederacy and the Kirby Smith Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans on the service records of his ancestor Thomas Barron who fought with the 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles.
Joseph is preceded in death by his father Francis George Speiser and his mother Esther Shirley Ann Barron Speiser.
He is survived by his wife Linda Walker Speiser, his son Joseph Charles Jr. of Jacksonville, his daughter Jessica Renee of Maine, his brother Frank (Rita) Speiser of Jacksonville, his sister Virginia Ruth Speiser-Smolder (Steven) of Guatemala and many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of his life will take place Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32207.
