Joyce Miriam Langley (nee Waller), 88, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born on July 3, 1933 in Lansing Michigan to Miriam Jacobs and Floyd J. Waller. Her family moved to Flint Michigan when Joyce was 7. Joyce graduated from Flint Technical High in 1951. In 1954 she met the love of her life, E. Robert Langley III (Bob), at General Motors Institute. The couple was married in June of 1956 and moved to Jacksonville, Florida to begin their life together. Joyce and Bob had 3 daughters, Kristy, Susan & Jennifer. For many years Joyce was a stay at home mom and was a volunteer during the girls’ childhoods at their schools, Southside United Methodist Church and as a swim team parent at San Jose Country Club. She is a former PTA President and was active with the wives of Rotarians for many years while Bob was a Rotarian and District Governor. Joyce loved the arts and volunteered as a docent at the Jacksonville Museum of Arts and Sciences (now MOSH). In addition, she taught for several years at the Walker-Skinner school for dyslectic students. Joyce was an avid cook and seamstress, and had a creative eye. For decades she made Halloween costumes for her children, grandchildren and others. Joyce loved music and enjoyed dancing. Many friends and family members referred to Joyce as “Joyce the Joyous” due to her quick smile and loving and caring demeanor. Anyone that ever worked with her or spent time with her will always remember her melodious whistling. After Bob retired they enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joyce was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She will remain a bright light in the memories of all that knew and loved her.

Joyce is predeceased by her parents, Miriam, step-father Lyman Green and father, Floyd J. Waller, as well as her husband, E. Robert Langley, III and son-in-law Michael A. Jenkins. She is survived by her brother, Floyd R. Waller, daughters, Kristy Langley Jenkins, Susan Langley Newman (Jim), Jennifer Langley Miller (Tim), her grandchildren, Meghan Congro (Steve), Weston Miller, Amanda Crist (Trey), Alexander Jenkins (Allison) and Colby Newman. Joyce is also survived by great grandchildren, Paige Crist, Beau Crist, Cora Congro, Genevieve Congro, Alexander Jenkins, Jr., Lukas Jenkins as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

A private family interment is scheduled for Saturday, September 4th in Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257 or give online at support.communityhospice.com.
