Lanelle Wheelis

Lanelle O. Wheelis, age 81, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021. Lanelle was born January 19, 1940 in Albany, Georgia to the late J. Wesley Owens and Bertha Lee McAfee Owens. She graduated from Valdosta High School in 1958. She retired from the Duval County Public Schools after 19 years as the Extended Day Director at Loretto Elementary. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Martin; 3 sisters: LeVerne Crosby, Gloria Jean Jones and Anita Mann. She is survived by four children; Randy Wheelis (Susie), Donnie Wheelis, Denise Peavley (Walter), Marla Faulkenberry (Kevyn), eight grandchildren; René Foth (Nathan), David James, Walter Peavley III (Ashlie), Haylee Ennis (Sam), Emily Faulkenberry, Megan Wheelis, Libby Wheelis, Ellie Faulkenberry, nine great-grandchildren, siblings; Wayne Owens (Sue), Wanda Bass, sister-in-law; Jeanette Culpepper and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family will miss her dearly but are rejoicing knowing she is together with Martin in the arms of Jesus.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 10, 2021,at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose' Blvd., Jacksonville FL 32207, with the Rev. Wayne Owens officiating. Family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
