

Leonard Alan Selber, 76, passed away peacefully at his son David’s house, on February 12, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Leonard was born on January 21, 1949. A man of intellect, dedication, and kindness, Leonard’s life was marked by his unwavering love for his family, his commitment to his work, and always striving for excellence.
An Eagle Scout in his youth, Leonard graduated from Wolfson High School before earning a degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, double majoring in Finance and Accounting and graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to Harvard Law School where he earned his law degree and later obtained an LL.M. in Tax Law from New York University.

A man of intellect, dedication, kindness, and humor, Leonard’s life was marked by his unwavering love for his family, his commitment to his work, and always striving for excellence.

Leonard built a distinguished legal career. He was a partner in Selber & Selber, his family law firm, alongside his father, Philip Selber, brother, Simon Selber, and sister-in-law, Marilyn Selber. He later joined Holland & Knight as an attorney and was also a professor of accounting at the University of North Florida. Leonard never sought the limelight, instead finding fulfillment in hard work, dedication, and supporting those he loved.
As a lifelong member of the Jacksonville Jewish Center, Leonard was deeply involved in its leadership, serving on the Board of Directors, the Building Committee, and various other committees. He also served as president of the synagogue’s youth organization.
Above all, Leonard cherished his family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he consistently offered guidance, support, and unconditional love. Leonard and his wife, Mary, shared a great love of animals and throughout their 39 years of marriage, they enjoyed many pets, especially dogs whom they dearly treasured. They even had a newt that lived for 30 years.
Leonard was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Roselyn Selber, and his brother, Simon Selber. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Selber, and his children, David Selber, Julie Kaufman, Allison Brody (Scott), and Ben Fink (Jordan), and his adored nieces and nephews. He was a proud and doting grandfather to Lillie, Joe, and Aidan Brody, and Jacob and Julia Kaufman who brought him endless joy.
Leonard made a difference in all of our lives. His kindness, dedication, and love for his family will be dearly missed.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at 12:00 noon at Evergreen Cemetery (New Center Memorial Cemetery) which is located at 200 E 43rd Street (43rd and Liberty Street). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society.
