Lera Romaine Benner

Our sweet amazing wife and mother, Lera Romaine Benner sadly passed away on July 12th, 2023 at the age of 69. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She was loved by all who knew her. Lera Benner was born August 14, 1953 to Frances Romaine and Michael Edward Powers in Philadelphia. She was a proud Navy Wife who adored her husband Russell Benner of 49 years of marriage. She was a nurse for 34 years and loved to take care of people, working L&D was her favorite.

Lera was preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Michael; sister Carol; brother Bill; brother Fred; sister Sharon; and nephews Chet and John.

Many will miss her especially her two children, daughter Nicole (Tom) Leslie and son Michael (Michelle) Benner; five grandchildren, Christian, Thomas III, Alexandria, Charles, Jasmine; brother Michael (Nancy) Powers; and several nieces and nephews that she loved very much. Before getting sick Lera loved making crafts and going to craft fairs with her friends, especially Debbie McCumbers. She also loved going to the beach and pool with her kids and grandkids.

Lera will be laid to rest in the Jacksonville National Cemetery, at 9:30 a.m., Monday, July 24, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like gift cards in $25 increments (they can’t accept gift cards larger than that) for the wonderful nurse’s that took care of her and her family during her final weeks of life. My mom loved being a nurse and she would want to show her appreciation to them.
