

O'BRIEN Mr. Lloyd Jay O'Brien 94, Jacksonville FL, a man of family, God & country, passed away at Mayo Hospital on Sunday March 3, 2013. Preceding him in death was his loving wife of 50 years, Jacqueline E. Burtt O'Brien. He was the proud father of eight children; Judith E. and Henry B Hodge, John J O'Brien and wife Judith Prager, Robert M O'Brien and Helene Weiss , Richard B O'Brien and wife Lauren C Ringhaver, David L and Kathie O'Brien, Thomas W O'Brien, Jeffrey A and Tina O'Brien, and Kevin J O'Brien, to whom he gave much love and guidance.. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, who loved him dearly , and one niece. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by; his father John G O'Brien, Mother Amy J Wilbur O'Brien, brothers Walter J O'Brien and Lester E O'Brien and sisters Marjorie (Reggie) Heffernan and Lillian (Max) Reed. Mr O'Brien was born and raised in Burlington, VT, attended Morris Jr College in Morristown, NJ and the Navel Mid-shipman's School in NY. He served as Gunnery Officer on the USS Hughes, serving in the South Pacific in WWII. Later he was promoted to Commander at The Navel Reserve Center in New Haven Ct. He retired from Sarah Coventry Jewelry, where he was VP of Marketing and was also a long time hotel proprietor. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am Thursday, March 7, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 742 Arlington Rd. His family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, with a Vigil service at 7:00 pm at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. Interment will be held in Burlington, Vermont. Expressions of sympathy may be made in memorial donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society % Christ the King Catholic Church.
