
Lorraine Colaiuta Haws of Jacksonville, Florida, 85, died peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 61 years, Donald Haws; five children: Robert Haws (Catherine), Jeanne Haws (Fred Daniele), Barbara Haws, Mary Redmond (Daniel), and Susan Clifford (William); and nine grandchildren: Russell Haws (Michelle), Ann Demi, John Demi, Elizabeth Clifford, Timothy Clifford, Grace Clifford, Frederick Daniele, Denise Redmond, and Kelly Redmond, plus several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in October by her sister, Eleanor C. DiFabio. Lorraine was born and raised in Ardmore, Pennsylvania and was a graduate of Rosemont College, having attended on a full academic scholarship. While taking master's degree courses in education at Temple University, she worked as a first grade teacher in the Philadelphia public schools before getting married in 1956. The Haws family lived in Havertown and Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania before eventually settling in Cranbury, New Jersey where she taught nursery school, and then became a bookkeeper and pro shop owner at the Princeton Indoor Tennis Center. After spending almost 20 years in NJ, she and Don moved to Plano, Texas then to Jacksonville, Florida, where they lived for the past 25 years. In her youth, Lorraine played the violin, becoming concertmistress at Lower Merion High School. She was also an accomplished athlete, playing tennis in high school (as team captain), in college and beyond before switching to golf. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling. She had many friends across the country, and all will miss her dearly. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00PM on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Baymeadows Road, Jacksonville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, Lorraine's family requests an offering in her name to Rosemont College.
