Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Lowell Vernon Hobbs, 88, of St. Johns, Florida passed away on January 9, 2023 after long illnesses. He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Betty Scyphers Hobbs; his daughter Lara Gambill (Gary), granddaughters Ashton Gambill and Megan Gambill, four nieces and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Lowell was born in Osaka, VA to the late Charles and Flora Hobbs. After graduating high school in Appalachia, VA, Lowell served in security for the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He attended East Tennessee State University on the G.I. Bill, majoring in math with a minor in physics. He then began his 35-year career as a district manager for Bellsouth/AT&T. In his spare time, Lowell enjoyed golf, fishing and woodworking. After his retirement, Lowell and Betty moved to Florida to be near their daughter and grandchildren.
A graveside service for Lowell will be held Monday, January 16, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd, with a reception following at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel.
