Loyce and her twin sister were born at a family member’s home in Hartsfield, GA on June 9th, 1934. She was the daughter of William E. Avera, Sr. and Minnie Jewel Sanderlin.
Family was the most important part of Loyce’s life. Her mother, Minnie, lived with Loyce for five years when she could no longer live alone and her proudest accomplishment was raising her three sons. To keep the family ties strong, Loyce prepared a large Sunday dinner every week as well as amazing holiday dinners. Through the years, the family gathered often for fish fries, reunions, baking days or canning days to make the secret family recipe of ‘pepper hash’. She was an avid reader and quickly learned how to use a Kindle Fire in her late 70s. It was not uncommon for her to finish five books in a week.
Loyce is survived by her three sons and their wives: James and Stacey Davis, David and Gwen Davis, Timothy and Natalie Davis. She was grandmother to: Robyn Carden, Reese Davis, Sophie Davis, Drew Davis, and Lewis Smith. She was great-grandmother to: Branden, Conner, Dylan and Ethan Smith. She is also survived by her twin sister, Joyce Harmon and sister Linda Beasley.
The celebration of Loyce’s life will begin with visitation and viewing at 10am, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am in the chapel at Christ’s Church Mandarin, 6045 Greenland Road, Jacksonville, FL 32258
