

Lynda Meryle Bishop passed peacefully on November 7, 2021. Born on April 6, 1937, in Milledgeville, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Ruby (Temple) Clayman. Growing up in a Navy family, Lynda moved extensively, residing in the nation’s capitol, Cape May, Seattle, and Tampa, among many other places. After graduating from Tampa Plant High School, she settled in Jacksonville, Florida, and attended the University of Florida. While in Jacksonville, she met and married the love of her life, the late John I. Bishop, Sr., on December 20, 1957, and they enjoyed 55 years together. Lynda was a beauty queen, devoted wife, loving and dedicated mother, doting grandmother (Nanny), excellent cook, gracious hostess, best rum cake baker, voracious reader, master seamstress, animal lover, and avid Gator fan, who loved to travel, fish and boat with her husband, socialize with friends, spend time at the lake house, and be with her family. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
She is predeceased by her husband, John I. Bishop, Sr., her beloved daughter Julie Ann Bishop, her sisters, Gloria Hochstim and Judy Glaeser. She leaves to cherish her memory, son John I. Bishop, Jr. (Carol), grandsons, John I. Bishop, III, and David B. Bishop, and niece, Diana Taylor.
A visitation for Lynda will be held Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 SAN JOSE BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32207. A funeral service will occur Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 4801 SAN JOSE BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32207. A committal service will occur Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 12:10 PM at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 SAN JOSE BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32207.
