She grew up in Old Tappan, New Jersey. Shortly after graduating from Dumont High School, Martha met Richard Miller in Schuetzen Park at the dancing pavilion in North Bergen, New Jersey. They danced, dated, fell in love and married on April 27, 1957. Together for just over 50 years, they had 4 children and hosted countless home parties for friends and family. There was always love, laughter, and fun in the family home. Martha chose raising the children as her primary career. After the children were self-sufficient, she and her best friend, Sue Strobel, opened Sue’s Sweet Shop on Jacksonville’s southside to pursue their love of baking. She later earned a Data Entry Operations Certificate from FCCJ in Jacksonville. Although she held numerous positions through the years her most fond memories were from the sweet shop, her role as pastor’s secretary at Southside Christian Church and receptionist at Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. Martha also enjoyed china painting and was a member of First Coast Porcelain Artist.
Martha is survived by her children, Richard (Lisa) Miller, Ruth (Jimmie) Womack, Paul Miller, Martha (Bill) Roberts; grandchildren Richard (Rachel), Braden, Noah, Heath, Ian, Maya and Becky; great-grandchildren Vickie and Christian. The family extends a special thank you the staff at Brooks Rehabilitation University Crossing for the exceptional care and support they provided in the last several years of her life.
A visitation will be held for Martha on Monday, July 19, 2021 at Hardage Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home, 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207 from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Graveside service to be held at Greenlawn Cemetery Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 10:30am.
