Mary Korey Lewis passed away February 18, 2024. A Jacksonville native, she was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church. Mary was born on December 29, 1918 to George and Sadie Korey. She was devoted to her parents and took care of them until their deaths. Her brothers Abie Korey, Mitchell Korey and a sister Rachel Bachara predeceased her.
Mary married Samuel Lewis in 1944. They were married for 54 years.
They were always dedicated to each other and he was the love of her life. During those years they traveled to Spain and Columbia as well as many trips around the U.S. They also spent many weekends surf fishing on Jacksonville Beach.
As a young adult Mary worked at the Woolworth Five & Dime. When she married Sam, they worked together in the grocery business. After working together for many years, Mary moved on to work at Florida National Bank as an accounting auditor.
Mary belonged to the Salaam Club of Jacksonville, the Molaka Club and the Syrian Ladies Charity. She loved to cook and bake and was always trying new recipes. She was also an avid gardener who cultivated beautiful flowers.
Mary loved spending time with friends and family. She is survived by her sister in law Dorothy B. Korey (Mitchell). Dorothy was a loyal and caring sister in law. They had daily conversations for over 80 years.
Many loving nieces and nephews also survive Mary. Nothing pleased her more than visiting with all the young people and learning what was going on in their lives.
