Maryellen was always such a beautiful and brave person to me in everything she did. We shared so many adventures at Resurrection School when we worked together, always laughing and praying ourselves through any challenges we faced. She has helped me to understand and have true faith in my life. What a blessing for her granddaughters to have a chance to know her and now keep her in their hearts. Tom and I extend all of our thoughts and prayers to Steve and the entire family.

I met Maryellen though my work with Steve. From the first time I met her I knew she was an extraordinary person. Just being with her inspired joy and kindness.  I admired her strength and spirituality in the face of adversity.  She was a true inspiration and will be missed.

I knew Maryellen especially through Steven, her beloved husband. He witnessed to me such faithful real love for her. He admired Maryellen joie de vivre and amazing self-giving to the dear neighbor.
The marriage covenant of loving in good times and bad ones was made flesh in Steven and Maryellen last two years.
God's Providence is always an expression of God's love for us. the time of her passing is providential: Easter, all related to the the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus and exactly on the day of the II Sunday of Easter named by St John Paul II Divine Mercy Sunday. And Sunday the day of the Resurrection. What more God could say to us ? I do hope overcomes the sadness of our temporary separation.

I lost my hero, my best friend, my Mom. But she would not want me to focus on the sad. My mom was a true Pollyanna (always saw the good even in the worst situation), a true follower of Christ and servant to everyone. She made even a stranger feel like the most important person in the world. Many a times she would even pick up the “stranger” and take them to lunch. Many a Beach Friday she would make an extra PB&J to hand to the homeless person who always stood at the corner of Atlantic and 1-295 on our way to the beach. She always dropped by unannounced with little gifts that she knew her granddaughters would love. She started and led so many organizations. Organized all our family birthdays and they always were mini family reunions with homemade ziti of course! Was always the life of the party (yes even at my middle school dances!) I miss our “talk times” as we called it. We’ve had so many great adventures! I am so happy she is not suffering anymore. She led such a big fight against Pancreatic Cancer always telling me, “Don’t worry, God’s got me.” Well now God has you all to himself and I miss you very much. But I know I have my own Angel watching over me with even a more direct line to God then you had with Him on earth. I can’t say “rest in peace” bc you didn’t ever know the meaning of that word…😂 But Jump for Joy bc you are with God and not in any pain anymore so go walk your 9miles again and lead all the angels in an even bigger chorus! I love you so much and I’ll see you again one day. But until then I will always carry you with me!

Maryellen probably had one of the largest influences in my life as how to be a good person. She  had such firm commitment to God that it was intrinsic to everything she did. Even in the worst of times, she always had this inner joy that just radiated from her. I'll always be grateful that she called me and prayed for me while I was in the hospital with covid. And as a good godmother should, told me to go back to church. She was the best godmother a person could have, a beautiful soul, and her memory will forever reside in my heart.

Maryellen, whenever we think of you, our hearts are filled with love and so many sweet memories! You touched our lives in a very special way through your great love of God and   others! We are so thankful we came to know you through our church and school family at Resurrection Parish. My mom made made everyone feel welcome. No matter who you were you felt invited if she was there. My mom was so caring and loving and I will never fully be able to get over her being gone. She was the life of the party and was happiest making others happy. My mom was strong and kicked cancers ass for 6 year before she was ready to see Jesus. Although i will miss her very deeply im happy to know she is at peace. I Love you mom.

Maryellen was an incredible woman of God, and left an indelible impression on everyone she met. She was a friend to all and an ideal example of how to live life. She was a sweet loving soul and a tough fighter who ALWAY had the most positive outlook on life. She was an Angel on earth, now an Angel of the Lord. We will miss you Maryellen.

My heart goes out to Steve and Mary Ellen’s family. She was such and dear, sweet lady who made anyone who met her feel very special. I only met Maryellen once many years ago. I reached out to her a few months ago to ask her a question about God and suffering. Not only did she call me, but she sent me novenas and prayers to help me understand how she dealt with suffering. By the time I hung up, I felt very much at ease.

I didn’t know Maryellen very well; however, based on all of the memories I’ve been reading, I can tell that she was very loved and she is missed terribly. My thoughts and prayers go out to Steve and all of his family at this extremely difficult time.

Eternal rest, grant unto her, oh Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

The world lost a beatiful soul, but Heaven gained an amazing Angel!   Maryellen was so full of life and love.  She was a cheerleader to anyone she met.  Even though she had some rough days, she was a devoted prayer warrior and always put other's needs before her own and NEVER complained.  She truly cared about everyone she met, especially those who were less fortunate.  She always lit up the room and was truly the life of any party.  She was always up for anything.  She was God fearing and was always faith-filled and adoring of our Lord.  And she shared that message of God's love to everyone she met.

Our hearts ache for her beautiful family.  Please know we are here for you.  We pray that God will surround you and bring you peace beyond understanding that only he can provide.

Tonight, I want to briefly tell you about an incredibly special woman. 

I don’t want to write obituaries. However, some people are too extraordinary to go without recognition here. 

Maryellen was an aunt to me. Not by blood but she might as well have been. She was my mom’s best friend since her daughter and I were in kindergarten together. 

No one else came close. 

Loud, vibrant, very Italian. You knew when she was in the room and she brought the party. 

I‘d list the organizations she volunteered for but we’d be here all night. 

She didn’t have a mean bone in her body and gave her all and then some with everything she did. 

Maryellen was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer years ago. She was given months to live. But Maryellen wasn’t done living. She stretched 60 days into 6 years. 

She and her husband watched their children get married. Have kids. That meant more than anything. 

She traveled, she volunteered, she spent countless hours trying to set me up with people (I’m stubborn and never listened.)

From owning the dance floor to riding on motorcycles to hopping on the boat (I snapped this pic of her and my mom recently.) She lived. And she proved a lot of people wrong. 

She always supported my work as a journalist. She wanted to help when I covered tragedies. She was always willing to send prayers and donations. She didn’t just say it. She did it and meant it. 

If I’ve posted about your family member on here, she most likely saw it and kept them in your prayers. 

If she knew you, she was in your corner. She just cared for people. No stipulations. 

She never wallowed. She never complained. I’d check on her and she’d divert the conversation. I recently texted her when she was having a bad day. 

“Thanks for your good wishes and I know God‘s got me Vic. He is always so good to me. Love you.”

She was the eternal optimist. 

Maryellen passed Sunday.  She was home with her family. Just how she wanted it. 

I don’t like to say someone “lost their battle with cancer.” She fought it and beat the odds. She did what she wanted to do on Earth, then she gracefully left. A devout Catholic (she’d let me hear about it if I didn’t acknowledge) she believed in life after death and didn’t seem to fear it. 

Most of you never met Maryellen. I’m truly sorry you didn’t. However, I hope this story will let her kindness and radiance brighten your day.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Maryellen. Words are never enough of a comfort nor can it change anything but please know that I am sending the most sincere condolences to you all (Bell and Longhi family). Maryellen was a beautiful woman inside and out and had such a caring spirit. I’ll never forget her performance when she sang at D.A. and Adrienne’s wedding. It was just beautiful!
