

O’BRIEN - Maurice B. “OB” O’Brien of Jacksonville Beach, FL. My beloved husband and father of our three sons, passed away on April 2, 2016 at McGraw Hospice after an extended illness. He was born in Pottsville, PA on March 31, 1930 to Maurice M. and Mary E. (Powers) O’Brien. The first boy, and the fifth child born into a family of ten children. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Mary Bowers, Frances Cuccia, and Bea Fitzgerald, and brothers Michael, Neil and Robert O’Brien. After high school he enlisted in the US Navy and was in during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged after 7 years. He met his future wife at Skateland Roller Rink in June 1951. He worked at several car dealerships in the auto body department before and after he went to work for his in-laws at Speed Frame Service where he straightened frames on cars and trucks for 20 + years. He went to teaching auto body repair and painting at West Side Skills Center, where he retired, and a job he really enjoyed with students. For years he bowled at Beach Bowl. After he retired he took art classes at Pablo Towers. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ernestine O’Brien; three sons and their wives Maurice M. (Rose) O’Brien and Leon P. (Holly) O’Brien of Fl., and Shawn M. (Tamera Gjesdal) O’Brien of NC; granddaughter Katie-Scarlett O’Brien Bailey (Brad) of NC, and ex daughter-in-law Debi Obrien of NC; sisters Jean Dronick of Minersville, PA and Patricia Kelly of Pottsville, PA; brother Bill O’Brien (Doris) of Goshen, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was of the Catholic faith. He will be missed so much very much by family and friends. Our thanks to Dr. Fern and Dr. Dinesh, also the dialysis clinic in Jax Beach. He was cremated, and family to make donations to the kidney organization. Graveside services with military honors will be held 10:30 am Friday April 8, 2016 at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
