Mavis married Dirk den Boef on July 23, 1953, and they shared 68 happy years together until his passing. Their love story was one for the ages, formed through shared experiences, including their childhood during World War II.
Mavis worked as a bookkeeper at Wesley Manor for many years, where she was known for her dedication and attention to detail. She was also an active member of the Jacksonville Camera Club with her husband Dirk until 2016, a place where they shared their love of photography and traveling.
In her spare time Mavis enjoyed many hobbies and activities including sailing, gardening, spending time at the beach, snow skiing, and caring for her beloved orchids. She cherished spending time with her lifelong friends and new friends at the county dock.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa (Daniel) Gunnells and her son Gregory (Laura) den Boef. Her grandchildren Gregory Gunnels, Michael Gunnels, Alex den Boef, Anna den Boef, and Kristin den Boef will continue to honor her memory, along with many friends and loved ones.
Mavis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dirk den Boef.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Patricia McBride and the staff at Community Hospice for their support and care.
