Maxine D. Wegant

Upon graduation from Binford High School, Maxine attended Business School in Jackson, MS and was employed by the State of Mississippi Forestry Division. It was there she met her husband, Frederick Philip Wegant, Jr. They were married March 3, 1950 and remained married until his death in 2002, a total of 52 years. Upon moving to FL, they lived in several cities before settling in Jacksonville. Although she continued to work as a secretary off and on during her lifetime, Maxine most enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her two children, Kathleen Dale Wegant and Frederick Michael Wegant.

Maxine loved being a mom and took special delight in her two grandchildren, Jessica Leigh Bussey and Lauren Michelle Bussey. She often assisted in their care as babies, participated in their activities as they grew and was most proud to attend their graduation from the University of Florida. Maxine loved baking and sharing recipes with friends and family. She also loved flowers and gardening and was a member of the Mandarin Garden Club for many years. Maxine enjoyed attending services at the Mandarin United Methodist Church.

Preceding Maxine in death is her husband, Frederick Philip Wegant, Jr.; their son, Frederick Michael Wegant; and her sister, Carolyn Rose Dale Smith. Surviving family members are Kathleen Dale Wegant Sumner and her husband, William Evans Sumner of Jacksonville, FL and her granddaughters, Jessica Leigh Bussey of Jacksonville, FL and Lauren Michelle Bussey of Boston, MA.

Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. The Graveside Service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, March 24, 2017 in Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
