Michael Wassmuth was born in New York two days after Christmas in 1949. On September 5, 2025, after a lengthy illness, and only one day before the 5th anniversary of her passing, Mike passed into Eternal Life to dance once again with his beloved Doe.
Often confused with Santa, Michael was known for his beard, his addictions to coffee and chocolate, his Hawaiian shirts, his love of flowering plants, for his passion in both work and play, but most of all, for his fierce devotion to his beloved wife and daughter. He hoped to be remembered for his devotion and honesty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Assumption Catholic Church (2403 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville) at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025, Feast of the Archangels. Visitation with his family will be held after the Mass, from noon until 2 p.m. in Kohls Hall, in the same parking lot as the church. The interment of ashes will take place privately at Greenlawn Cemetery.
His daughter requests that attendees dress in appropriate but colorful clothing, with a special request for Hawaiian shirts, reflecting Michael's love of Hawaiian shirts and flowers.
His daughter requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Community Hospice or the Diocese of St. Augustine's Catholic Foundation.
