

Minnie Alice “Sweetie Pie” Grice, age 97, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016. She was born on December 10, 1918, in Orangeburg, South Carolina to Rufus Franklin Williams and Grace Pooser Williams and graduated from Memminger High School in Charleston, South Carolina.
Minnie dedicated her life to raising her two sons, Norwood “Woody” and Franklin “Stacy” Grice. After her boys got older, she became a waitress at some of the better restaurants in Jacksonville; The Green Turtle, Stricklands’s Town House, and The Charcoal Steak House. She was a Sunday School teacher at Hendricks Avenue Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Florida, and later on became a member of the Church of Christ in Melrose, Florida.
Sweetie Pie was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Colley Swinton Grice. She is survived by her two sons, Norwood (Debbie), and Stacy (Susie); five grandchildren, Colin (Vicki), Shannon (Gene), Lisa (Craig), Stacy (Stacey), and Casey (Daphne); eleven great-grandchilden; Rick, Randall, Shaina, Tayler, Austin, Kylee, Savana, Parker, Leah, Cooper, and Fletcher; three great-great-grandchildren; Shalin, Jayden and Kynleigh.
Relatives and friends may greet the family from 2-4:00pm on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Hardage-Giddens Hendricks Chapel, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville 32207. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, August 29, 2016 in Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to have contributions be made in Minnie’s name to Haven Hospice, 6400 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, FL 32177.
