
Minnie Lee Hancock, age 99, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the McGraw Hospice Center in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born November 15, 1926 in Deland, Florida to Wilber and Hattie Vanlandingham. She moved to Jacksonville as a child and resided in several locations in Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach.
Minnie lived a long and meaningful life defined by her strength, devotion and love for her family and friends. She witnessed nearly a century of change and carried with her a deep sense of resilience, wisdom and determination. She was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School, Class of 1944. She was a member of Fort Caroline Baptist Church and a former member of Highlands Baptist Church and Ocean Park Baptist Church.
In her younger years she enjoyed long walks on the beach, marathon shopping trips and going dancing with friends.
Minnie is predeceased by her parents; her husband of 43 years, Abner R. Hancock, Jr.; and her brother, Rawlin Vanlandingham.
Minnie is survived by her sister Jennie Rikard of Foley, Alabama; her daughters, Nancy Hall (Lanny) and Janice Johnson; her four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 12pm at Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida, with a reception immediately following in their Chapel.
