

Nair Aparecida de Carvalho Maher passed away on September 16, 2025. She was able to celebrate her 100th birthday last November amongst many family members and friends. Nair, one of seven children, was born in Consolação, Minas Gerais, Brazil, on November 22, 1924. She attended the Nossa Senhora de Bom Conselho school and then completed her higher education at Instituto Santa Doroteia in Pousso Alegre, Minas, before working as a primary school teacher. Later, Nair moved to Rio de Janeiro where she had an administrative position with PanAir. On January 29, 1955, she married Anatole Maher whom she had met at a tea dance at the Cultura Inglesa. In 1967, Nair, Anatole and their four children emigrated to the USA and settled in Jacksonville. Nair was an avid gardener and worked as a florist for several years. Later, she made wedding cake toppers for a friend’s bakery business. She was very devout and participated in Resurrection Catholic Church’s Young at Heart and Knitting Groups. Nair was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by four children, sixteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
The visitation will take place at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd, on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 3-5 pm. A Mass will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 11:00 am with graveside service following at Arlington Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Fibromyalgia Association.
