

Nettie T. Walker, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2015 at the McGraw Hospice Center. She was born April 18, 1932 in Macclenny, Florida to the late Arch and Vessie Thrift. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Billy J. Walker; and two children, Lou Ann Matthews (Larry) of Jacksonville, Florida and Gregory James Walker (Debbie) of San Mateo, Florida; grandchildren, Melissa Lane Berdy (Cary), Jordan Matthews Russell (Scott), Christopher Walker (Stephanie), Tyler Walker, and Madison Walker; one sister, Willie Mae Bass, of Macclenny, Florida and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
Nettie graduated from Macclenny High School and has lived in Jacksonville since 1951. She served as President of St. Luke’s Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and worked alongside Mrs. Flo Davis for many years. She was a member of the Mayo Clinic Florida Leadership Council since 2005, now Emeritus. She hosted many fundraising dinners at her home for Mayo Clinic.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to her loving caretakers, Carol Powers, Christie Powers, and Lucie Poirier; Dr. Gary Lee, Dr. Gianrico Farrugia, and all of their associates at Mayo Clinic. A private burial will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery. Friends are invited to a memorial service at 10:30 am, Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Lakewood United Methodist Church, 6133 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. A reception will immediately follow.
