Nina was born on July 30, 1925 in Danville, Virginia, the youngest of five children of Joseph and Elsie (Elliott) Gilbert. The Gilbert family moved to Miami, Florida in 1935. Nina attended Miami High School, where she excelled in sports.
During the Second World War, Nina worked in the Intelligence Office of the US Air Corps at Homestead, Florida. While working in that office she met John Gordon Moore, Jr. They were married in 1946 and chose to make Jacksonville their home. Their marriage ended with John’s death in January 2010.
Nina was a devoted full-time wife and mother to three daughters. Her life was centered around her family and their church. When her children became older, Nina returned to her love of sports and filled closets with the many trophies she won. She especially enjoyed her involvement in the San Jose and Deerwood Ladies Golf Associations. She will be remembered for her unquenchable energy and enthusiasm, and her devotion to family. Dearly loved, she loved dearly.
Nina is survived by her three daughters, Barbara G. Moore (Bob Brown), Joan E. Moore (Dan Schafer), and Linda J. Moore, her sister Rachael Lampl’, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
